Student classification
Undergraduate students
Full-time: Students registering for the equivalent of 12 or more credits during a given session1 will be considered full-time students and must pay full-time tuition and incidental fees.
Part-time: Those registering for less than 12 credits will be considered part-time students and must pay part-time tuition (on a per credit basis) and part-time incidental fees. Part-time fees in the case of non-credit (N/C) courses are determined according to the number of weekly hours of formal lectures or equivalent.
Graduate students
Graduate students declare their classification when signing their registration forms. The classification cannot be changed after the deadline published in the Sessional Dates. For details please consult the calendar of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
NOTES
1 For purposes of fee assessment and classification, courses taken as an auditor are not included in the student classification and special fees apply.
Am I a special student?
A special student is a person who is allowed by the University to register for undergraduate courses in order to obtain university credits, but who is not seeking an undergraduate degree, a certificate or a diploma from the University of Ottawa.
What tuition fees do I pay if I’m a special student?
Most special students are classified as “part-time.” If you are a part-time special student, you pay per credit and should refer to the part-time tuition-fee table of the faculty offering your course. If you are a full-time special student, please contact InfoService for more information on which tuition fees you pay.
Please note the following:
- The increase in SFUO and GSAED incidental fees takes effect only in the fall of 2012
- The University of Ottawa recently signed a model licence negotiated by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) and Access Copyright, a Canadian copyright collective, which covers the cost of reproducing print and digital materials included in Access Copyright’s repertoire for research and teaching purposes. The licence runs until the end of 2015. Consequently, a new flat per-student fee will replace the 10¢/page previously charged for course packs and some other types of printing. Beginning with the Fall 2012 session, part-time students will have to pay $5 per session and full-time students will have to pay $11 per session for an Access Copyright licence. For more information, please visit the Copyright Office page on the Library’s website.
