Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When can I register online for convocation?
A: The online registration period begins near the middle of February for spring convocation and near the end of July for fall convocation. If you are scheduled to graduate, we will send you an email asking you to complete and submit the online Registration for Degree and Request for Diploma form, which you can access through uoZone (click on "InfoWeb", then "Services", then "Request to Graduate"). You will need to indicate whether you intend to take part in the convocation ceremony.

When online registration is no longer available, please complete the Registration for Degree and Request for Diploma form (PDF).

Q: How long is the convocation ceremony?
A: The ceremony takes about two and a half hours.

Q: I have an important appointment the day of the ceremony. Can I leave immediately after receiving my diploma? What do I do with my gown?
A: We’d be delighted to have you stay with us for the entire ceremony, but we understand that certain circumstances might require you to leave right after getting your diploma. If that’s the case, simply leave your gown at the gown return area.

Q: Will there be a meal or snack of some sort at convocation?
A: No.

Q: What if I need a wheelchair? Who should I tell?
A: Contact us by email at aocs-graduation@uOttawa.ca at least two weeks prior to the ceremony if possible.

Q: What if, at the last minute, I’m unable to attend the convocation ceremony?
A: We will mail you your diploma the week after the ceremony.

Q: Is there a coat check at the National Arts Centre?
A: You can use the NAC coat check free of charge in the Southam Hall foyer.  However, you don’t have access to a coat check back stage. We strongly recommend that you leave your valuables (purses, cameras, etc.) with one of your guests. The University of Ottawa is not responsible for items left backstage.

Q: I would like to attend the convocation ceremony but I have a scheduling conflict. Can I participate in the next ceremony instead?
A: Yes, you can. To make arrangements to attend a different ceremony, email aocs-graduation@uOttawa.ca to let us know you would like to sign up for the next convocation ceremony.
