Graduate Education Bursary (GEB)

Worth $2000 ($1000 per year1), the Graduate Education Bursary (GEB) is awarded to you if you:

    1. have Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or protected-person status
    2. are registered for the first time for full-time2 studies in a University of Ottawa master’s or graduate certificate program offered in French3
    3. have not received an admission scholarship or an external award (NSERC, OGS, CIHR, FQRNT, FQRSC, FRSQ, etc.)
    4. demonstrate financial need by completing the Financial Questionnaire (Projection before 15 july, Current after August 1st, (accessible through your InfoWeb account), before or at the beginning of your first session, according to the following dates:

Bursary renewal

The GEB is automatically renewed at the beginning of your second year of studies, provided you maintain full-time2 registration in a University of Ottawa master’s or graduate certificate program offered in French.

Please note that you need to complete the Financial Questionnaire only once to receive this bursary (but be sure to do so before or at the beginning of your first session, by following the above deadlines).


1 The GEB ($1000 per year) is credited to your student account at the beginning of your first study session.
2 Temporary interruption of your studies or registration part-time or as a special student will lead to your bursary being revoked.
3 The bursary may still be granted to you if your program is not offered in French but your admission records indicate that your mother tongue or correspondence language is French.
