Your Loan, Your Responsibility
As a borrower of a government loan, you must assume many responsibilities and obligations.
You have the responsibility to make sure that the identification information (name, social insurance number) on your loan document is accurate. You must return your loan document to the Financial Aid and Awards Office if the information is incorrect.
You must read, understand and adhere to the terms and conditions stipulated on your Student Loan Agreement. You will have to complete this loan agreement when you bring your loan document to a designated Canada Post outlet.
You agree to use the loan to pay your University of Ottawa tuition fee first, then to cover any other educational or living expenses.
You will immediately notify, in writing, the Financial Aid and Awards Office if:
- you reduce your course load
- you switch your program of study
- you withdraw from your studies
- your or your family's financial situation changes
- there is a change in your marital status
You also agree to return your loan to the Financial Aid and Awards Office if you:
- withdraw from studies or change your course before processing your loan at the National Student Loan Service Centre
- decide to attend another university or college
- decline your student loan
You agree to promptly repay your lender any required loan overpayment and to make appropriate repayment arrangements with your lender when you finish studying full time.
You agree to inform your lending institution and/or the National Student Loan Service Centre, by providing the appropriate form, if you are going back to school full time in the subsequent academic year.
